I had surgery to repair a plantar plate rupture and neuroma in my left foot in early January 2012. Surgeon had to go in from the bottom of the foot which has meant no weight bearing for 2+ weeks so far and I still don't have all my stitches out. Crutching is hard but I got a wheelchair which is great around the first floor of my house. Unfortunately, still need crutches when I'm upstairs in the bedroom. Have a feeling it's going to be long time before I can really put full weight back on the foot. I agree with previous writer about difficulties in getting up on crutches to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I really have to focus on balance the first several steps.

[...] Cast Cooler. Wearing a cast is definitely uncomfortable, but a smelly, itchy cast? It’s downright embarrassing, not to mention very exasperating! Wrap the Cast Cooler over your cast and watch it work wonders. Attach it to your vacuum cleaner, and it will cause air to pass through your cast which in turn, dries the moisture that causes the itching. By keeping the cast dry, it eliminates the breeding ground for germs and bacteria that causes your cast to stink. Pretty cool, huh? [...]

It's been almost 2 months since I had foot surgery. The doctor took hardware out from an earlier operation and put a wedge into my heelbone to give my foot an arch. I am currently in a cast, and I am still non-weight bearing. I get a walking boot exactly a week from today. There have been maybe 10 occasions where I have tripped or something of the matter and put weight on my foot (I am a very clumsy person when it comes to walking on crutches). I am not having any pain or anything in my foot but I hope that everything is okay. Can anyone please tell me what they think? I would really appreciate it.
